Theaterworkshop: Overseas Chinese mit ZHdK
Last Wednesday was the first session of our theaterworkshop.
There are three students of the Theater pedagogy of ZHdK and Marcel W, who is their teacher: Lucas, Marcel G., Simone (2 guys and one girl).
9 participants: Chen (man), Hanbin (man), Hsiao, Jasmine, Lisa, Ma, Nina, Yanyan, Zhao (7 women and 2 guys).
It is a nice group, most of then do not know each other. I could feel, that everybody was a little bit nervous in the beginning and did not know what they could expect from this theaterworkshop. In the beginning the people (participants and students) were still a bit insecure. We speak mostly English, because one participant does not speak German, but once in a while we were speaking German, then translating into English or into Chinese. We were playing all sorts of theater games to warm up and feel more confortable. Sometimes, we were playing children games and the people really enjoyed it. The room is pretty big and the people can run and move around. I can sense, people are really enjoying to run around and just behave like a big kid.
At the end we made a short evaluation, people were writing down what they like, did not like and what they were expeting from the workshop. Finally, we were sitting again in a circle talking shortly what first impression they had of this group and if they want to continue. The majority liked the first session and is doing the whole workshop.
Very looking forward to observe the process of this group. Next time, I’m going to film!

oh! i had no idea you started today! it sounds really great! hope you can upload some pictures soon. are these people mostly chinese from china and living now in switzerland, or born in switzerland? i don’t know if you’re allowed, but it would also be nice to see the transcripts about what people expect from the workshop– i wonder if these people feel that theatre fits into their daily lives in any way, or what their interest is in theatre. but sounds really good to start slowly like this, and everyone take time to warm up to one another… good luck these weeks!
